Sept 29, 2024 - Olympic Games, Whitboard & More!

Hey friend, Dimitris here!

It is time for your Weekly Sunday Dose of Greek. To begin with, this week’s vocabulary comes directly from the Quiz of the Day videos I uploaded on Instagram and Facebook! I hope you enjoyed them – there were 4 in total.

I also received some great feedback from you all, and many of you asked to include the article in front of the words. So, here’s this week’s vocabulary, with the articles included for the nouns and without for the verbs!

Greek Quote of the Week
"Αρχή ήμισυ παντός" (Arhí ímisi pantós) – "The beginning is half of everything."
This quote reminds us that starting something new is already half the battle won.

Χορεύω (Horevo) – I dance
Τρέχω (Treho) – I run
Περπατάω (Perpatao) – I walk
Τρώω (Troo) – I eat
Ζεστό (Zesto) – Warm
Κρύο (Krio) – Cold
Παγωμένο (Pagomeno) – Frozen

Grammar Tip of the Week
Did you know that in Greek, verbs change form based on who is performing the action? Pay close attention to verb endings, as they tell you whether the subject is "I", "you", "we", or "they".

Example:

I run: Τρέχω (Treho)
You run: Τρέχεις (Treheis)
We run: Τρέχουμε (Trehoume)

Fun Fact about Greece
Did you know that the Olympic Games originated in ancient Greece? They were held in Olympia as early as 776 BC and were part of a religious festival honoring Zeus. The tradition continues today as the flame is still lit in Olympia before every modern Olympic Games.

Dimitris Update
Big news! I got a MASSIVE whiteboard this week 😄 – so you can expect more videos with me scribbling away, teaching Greek in all kinds of fun ways! Who knew getting a giant whiteboard would feel like winning the lottery?! Stay tuned for some whiteboard magic.

Looking forward to sharing more Greek knowledge with you next week! Let’s continue the journey together!

Lots of love,
Dimitris
