Greek Quote of the Week 💬

"Η αρετή είναι το μέσο ανάμεσα σε δύο κακίες."
"Virtue lies in the middle ground between two extremes."
– Aristotle

Vocabulary of the Week: Coffee Shop Essentials

Here are some common words you’ll encounter in a Greek café:

  • Ο καφές (O kafés) – The coffee
  • Η ζάχαρη (I záchari) – The sugar
  • Το γάλα (To gála) – The milk
  • Το κουλούρι (To koulouri) – The sesame bread ring
  • Η τυρόπιτα (I tyropíta) – The cheese pie
  • Το νερό (To neró) – The water
  • Η απόδειξη (I apódixi) – The receipt

Grammar Tip of the Week: Understanding the Τόνος (Accent) 📝

In Greek, every word with more than one syllable has a τόνος (accent mark) on a vowel to indicate where the stress falls when pronouncing the word.

  • Words with one syllable don’t need a τόνος, except in specific cases (e.g., πού = where, ή = or).
  • Always place the accent on one vowel in words with two or more syllables.
  • Examples:
  • Καφές (Kafés) – Coffee
  • Σοκολάτα (Sokoláta) – Chocolate
  • Τραπέζι (Trapézi) – Table

This small detail is key to sounding natural and confident when speaking Greek!

Fun Fact About Greece 🌊

Did you know Greece has the longest coastline in Europe? 🇬🇷

With over 13,676 kilometers of stunning shores, Greece boasts countless beautiful beaches and islands, making it a top destination for sun, sea, and sand lovers.

Love it

Once I figured out where Demetri was i have really enjoyed the program. I am working each a few times as the Greek, although familiar to me due to my family scared me because of the annunciation. I highly recommend it
