Dec 1st, 2024 - New Videos!

Hey friends🇬🇷,

Kαλό Μήνα (kalo mina - good month) to everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and ready for another exciting week of Greek learning.

This past week, I created two new YouTube videos to help you practice Greek speaking:

  1. Grocery Store Dialogue – Learn everyday phrases for shopping in Greek.
    Watch here

  2. Practice Greek Speaking – A step-by-step video to improve your conversational skills.
    Watch here

We also had our first Greek Speaking & Listening call in the community this week, where over 20 members joined to practice listening and speaking Greek together. It was amazing to see so many of you actively participating!

I have extended the $150/year annual membership until tonight because a few people emailed me that they were travelling due to American Thankgiving so this is your last chance to get into the community with a suuuuuuuuper low price.

Now, let’s move to your weekly Greek inspiration.

Greek Quote of the Week

"Η μόνη αληθινή σοφία είναι να ξέρεις ότι δεν ξέρεις τίποτα."
"The only true wisdom is to know that you know nothing."
– Socrates

"I moni alithini sofia einai na xereis oti den xereis tipota"

Vocabulary of the Week: Wishes in Greek

Here are some common Greek wishes to practice and use:

  • Καλό μήνα (Kaló mína) – Happy month
  • Καλή εβδομάδα (Kalí evdomáda) – Happy week
  • Καλό σαββατοκύριακο (Kaló savvatokíriako) – Happy weekend
  • Καλές γιορτές (Kalés giortés) – Happy holidays
  • Καλό ταξίδι (Kaló taxídi) – Safe travels
  • Καλή χρονιά (Kalí hroniá) – Happy New Year

Grammar Tip of the Week: Adding the “ν” (nu)

In Greek, the final ν (nu) is sometimes added or dropped depending on the following word.

  • Use την (tin) when the next word starts with a vowel or the consonants κ, π, τ, μπ, ντ, γκ, ξ, ψ.
  • Use τη (ti) before words starting with other consonants.

This small but important detail ensures smooth and natural Greek pronunciation!

Fun Fact About Greece

Did you know that nearly half of Greece's population lives in Athens and its surrounding areas?

With a total population of around 11 million, approximately 5 million people call Athens home. This makes the capital a bustling hub of history, culture, and modern life, blending ancient landmarks like the Acropolis with vibrant neighborhoods like Monastiraki and Plaka.

Dimitris Update

This week, my focus has been on two key areas:

  1. The Daily Greek Community: We now have over 140 amazing members learning and connecting in a supportive space.

2. YouTube Videos: I’m working on creating more long-format videos to provide greater value and deepen your Greek learning experience.

Thank you for being part of this journey—it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come together.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! Feel free to reply and let me know how your Greek practice is going.

Warm regards,
Dimitris
